Wii Wii Wii

It was a Wii birthday for Cory as Nina and I decided to get him a Wii. So far the game console has been very fun to play. He got a sports pack that has Golf, Tennis, Bowling, Baseball, and Boxing on it, although those games wear me out. Last weekend he bought the latest Guitar Hero and I also bought a guitar so that we or anyone can play as a team. We also got him some accessories for the sports pack like some foam tennis rackets, golf clubs, crossbow holders, and baseball bats. The Wii is a very unique game system as most of the games are played with a remote where the user has to stand in front of the TV and wave it around to get something to happen in the game. Like with tennis you have to wave the remote and do the action of a tennis racket to hit the ball and timing is a key also. Swing at the ball too early or late and you will hit it out of bounds. Among the other things that he received was a new knife and hat. We had a small get together on Wednesday and served cake an...

A Little Explanation about the Cliff Dwellers

Well in my first post I pretty much just gave you a summary of the vacation in general. I thought that I would go into more detail of the Mesa Verde visit as I find that area to be very interesting. Although there is evidence of inhabitants that dates back 1,000s of years I am going to focus this post on the early Puebloan people. About 400AD or so is one of the earliest pithouses that I had the privilege to look at. Those homes were 2 room dwellings that were dug into the ground. Timbers were lined up around the edges with a square roof. Fires for cooking and warmth were burnt in the hole dug in the center of the room with a hole in the roof right above. Most of these dwellings showed evidence of burning to the ground where it is believed that they would just rebuild. Ancient Puebloan peoples' diet was mainly based on corn which they grew along with beans and squash. Mesa Verde has about a 150 day growing season. They also hunted and gathered seeds, berries, and nuts. The...

Vacation

We went on vacation last week to Colorado and Utah via Kansas and Missouri. We saw 7 states in 9 days, took off on Thursday July 3 around 2 in the afternoon and headed west. Our first stop was in Topeka, Kansas where we spent the night. The next morning we got up and left after a good breakfast. Around 3 in the afternoon we got our first sight of the mountain and it was Pike's Peak over looking Colorado Springs, Co. That is where we spent the next 3 nights and the sights that we saw were Pike's Peak, Seven Falls, Garden of the Gods, and Manitou Springs. So we spent Friday, Saturday , and Sunday nights there. On Monday we took off for Cortez, Co. That is close to Mesa Verde. On the way there we were able to take in some good places like the Continental Divide and Treasure Falls. Once we got there we packed it up for the evening. The next day Tuesday brought us to Mesa Verde. There we spent the day looking at the ruins of the ancient Puebloan people who built the famous cli...
